Certified EvexiPEL Provider
EvexiPEL Hormone Pellet Therapy
Steady, bioidentical hormones from one small pellet, placed in a quick office visit. Julie Bernell, MD, is a certified EvexiPEL provider serving Kingwood, The Woodlands and New Caney.
What is EvexiPEL?
Bioidentical pellets, personalized
EvexiPEL is a hormone pellet therapy program from EVEXIAS Health Solutions. The pellets contain bioidentical estradiol or testosterone and are about the size of a grain of rice. Once placed under the skin, they release hormone steadily for several months.
EvexiPEL is part of a broader method that starts with lab testing and pairs dosing with follow-up. As a certified provider, Dr. Bernell has completed EvexiPEL training in pellet dosing and pellet insertion.
The visit
What to expect at your pellet insertion
Step 01
Numbing
The area, usually the upper hip, is cleaned and numbed with a local anesthetic.
Step 02
Insertion
A tiny opening is made and the pellet is placed just under the skin. It takes only a few minutes.
Step 03
Closing
The site is closed with adhesive strips and a bandage. No stitches are usually needed.
Step 04
Aftercare
Avoid soaking and strenuous lower-body exercise for a few days, as instructed, to help the site heal.
Timeline
Your first months on pellets
What many patients notice
- Some feel changes in sleep or energy within a few weeks
- Mood, focus and libido often follow
- Full effect usually takes a few months
- Re-insertion is often every 3 to 6 months
Possible side effects
- Soreness or bruising at the site
- Rarely, infection or a pellet working its way out
- Acne or oily skin, fluid retention
- Higher red blood cell counts with testosterone
Important to know. EvexiPEL pellets are compounded medications and are not FDA approved. Once a pellet is placed, the dose cannot easily be lowered until it wears off, which is why careful lab-based dosing matters. Pellets are not right for everyone. Dr. Bernell will review your health history and labs, and discuss other options if pellets are not a good fit.

Comparing pellet brands
Several pellet programs are available, including EvexiPEL and Biote. See our full EvexiPEL vs. Biote comparison. They share the same basic idea, bioidentical hormones placed under the skin, but differ in their training, dosing approach and support programs. elev8HRT offers EvexiPEL only.
If you have had pellets elsewhere and are thinking about switching, bring your recent labs and treatment history to your first visit and we will plan the transition with you.

Questions
Common questions
How long does EvexiPEL last?
Many women need new pellets every three to four months and many men every four to six months, depending on dose and how quickly the body uses them. Follow-up labs guide the timing. Read more: how long hormone pellets last.
Does pellet insertion hurt?
The area is numbed first, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Mild soreness for a few days afterward is common.
Can women and men both use EvexiPEL?
Yes. Women may receive estradiol and sometimes a small dose of testosterone for women. Men receive testosterone. Every dose is individualized.
