Yes, you can stop testosterone replacement therapy. It is not addictive, and you are not locked in for life. But stopping has effects worth planning for.
What happens to your natural testosterone
While you are on TRT, your brain signals your testes to make less testosterone and sperm. After stopping, natural production usually restarts, but recovery can take months, and in some men it does not return to its old level.
Symptoms often come back
If low testosterone caused your fatigue, low libido or weight gain, those symptoms tend to return as levels fall. That is why it helps to understand the cause of low testosterone before starting.
Fertility
TRT can lower sperm counts significantly. Many men recover after stopping, but it can take a year or more. Read more about TRT and fertility.
How to stop safely
Do not just stop on your own. A physician can plan the timing, check labs and, in some cases, use medications that help the body restart its own production.
